Need for change in school curriculum
Many teenagers and youngsters are attempting to suicides for silly causes which are considered by them as out of their control. This is because of the immature nature of the teenagers and unawareness of the sweetness of life and art of living. They appear to have not aware of the values and the purpose of life. It is because of the innocence of the youngsters about the fruitful life. Though the basic education provides the essence of the ethical values and social awareness, the teenagers are not compelled to receive the true education for betterment of their life and to enjoy the art of living. There is need for change in the core curriculum and syllabus in the Schools at least from 8th standard to 12th standard to make children as perfect citizens by inculcating the values of life and art of living. It is high time the National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT) and the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), to think over for the inclusion of the value based educational topics in the School Syllabus as one of the Teaching subjects in each and every class till they receive Secondary Education. The preaching of Swami Vivekananda and his contributions towards the mankind have to be collected and cultivated as Teaching subjects to the School Children through out their study from Class-VIII to Class-XII. The spirit of the words of Swami Vivekananda, “All power is within you; you can do anything and everything. Believe in that; do not believe that you are weak. Stand up and express the divinity within you”, must reach each and every heart of the youngster. In addition, there is need for inclusion of the vital points and essence from the Philosophy of Education propounded by Mahatma Gandhi together with his the contributions on value based education. By organizing the above value based topics as teaching subjects at Upper Primary and Secondary Education levels, there may be some fruitful results by the time the children complete their Secondary Education, and the youngsters may be in a position to understand the sweetness of life and art of living, so that they may re-consider their adverse thoughts of committing suicide or for taking extreme steps on account of their sudden hurt in their feelings, failure in love affairs and mental disturbances for various reasons.
