Examinations - A Challenge before the Students

EXAMINATIONS – A CHALLENGE BEFORE STUDENTS:

Many students always afraid of appearing for the Examinations. Examinations are our tools for self evaluation. One should find himself about his caliber, capacity, worthiness, awareness etc., on the specific subject/course which will pave the way for him to develop the subject knowledge. Examinations are really companions of each and every student in his study life. Strategic planning is quite necessary to get through the Examinations very easily.

Examinations or Tests, normally measure the understanding and awareness of the concerned subject – It is an evaluation process. The scores of student go a long way in deciding his career and life in today’s context. It can be said that writing a test can be a stressful event. The only ways to make sure that the students tend to prepare fully and study hard to know the subject.
The things to do to gain success are:

 Prepare your mind in the first instance towards the Examination by means of a strategic plan and schedule of timings to spare time for each topic, unit, portion which you are required to complete on that day.
 Take out a paper and pen. Go round the entire topic randomly once and underline the important points of the portion and try to understand the concept of the topic/unit and keep in mind the important points to elaborate information in your examination.
 The calmer the mind, the better its capability to register and retrieve information.
 Allocate five minutes to calm your mind when you sit to study.
 When the mind is relaxed, it is in such a state of mind to accept whatever the information you require to fill it in the gap.
 Choose a calm place for study.
 Comfortable seating position and keep your books handy.
 Sit comfortably, close your eyes and take deep breaths.
 Relax your body and mind.
 Take step by step information on the topics/portions and complete the entire the topic of the Examination you want to appear in a relaxing mood without any disturbance in your home.
 Repeat once again the entire topic/portion with clean state of mind, and note down some important points to be remembered for ever.
 Ask your parents, brothers and sisters, not to disturb you while you are in the mood of practicing the entire course/topic.
 When you are in the dining table, or garden, or at other place of your home, you please recollect the points of your portion which you have noted down earlier, and try to expand the course content in your mind silently so that the information gathered in your mind will definitely store in your mind and help it at the time of writing the Examination.
 Make sure that the centre points you have noted down earlier to be mingled round in your mind which will give a great help for expansion of the content while answering the questions in the Examination hall.
 Always keep your mind fresh and clean. There may be so many dragons in your mind. There is something uncertainty in the minds of many people and raise some questions such as “ can I remember all I learn and studied ?” Can I compete with others in facing the Examination, like that. All these add tensions in the mind. Imagine each to be a dragon. Every time these thoughts surface, just slay and immediately kill the dragon and bury it. Quickly replace this negative thought with positive thoughts that give you confidence and brevity of the subject.
 Control your consciousness and make sure about the topic you have covered in the previous night and continuously analyze the issues in the topic/unit in a positive outlook with an intension to retain in your mind and body.
 Everyday you have to do this exercise before your examinations start and try to maintain time management in every aspect to have a perfect schedule of study in your home and leisure time. Don’t hesitate to spend time for a while for relaxation. Relaxation is more important. Periodical intervals give you mental satisfaction and ability to study further and desire to keep the knowledge more and more in your mind.
 Prepare yourself ready for examinations and attempt it with heroic manner
 Visualize the day of your results and see yourself.
 See the scene as if it is just happening with your friends, teachers and parents congratulating you.
 Enjoy the experience.
 Take a few deep breaths and open your eyes.
 Now you are completely charged up and ready to absorb and retain information.

Strategic Planning of the Schedule:

 Plan your time depending on what you want to study, how much ground you have to cover in that session. First of all you have to go through the entire topic and divide it into smaller parts/unit-wise and shape it in order to carry the programme of work conveniently
 Allot time for studying, revising, and relaxing. Fix up some intervals for small relaxations a while.
 Ideally take a break for about two minutes after every 20 minute of studying.
 Clearly plan what topics you will cover and in what time frame. You should have an idea of the topics to be covered.
 Make a list of the most important things you need to learn, in order of importance, and hit the items at the top first. Make sure that the importance of the topic should not be ignored.
 Make a list of all the work you have to do, estimate how much time each will take, and compare that with the amount of hours you have available.
 This will tell you if you can carefully read ( or just skim), how many times you can afford to revise papers, and other ways to pace yourself so you can get everything done.

Students generally make a study plan but failed to implement it. One reason is that they get sucked into specific topics and spend much time there and end up with without covering the portions that are required to be touched upon for Examination purpose. . Some times they do not concentrate as much as they should, and could take a longer time to complete by rescheduling the plan of action or due to some unforeseen incidents that could not be avoided due to several reasons in home or outside home, for which things beyond their control. The social and financial reasons may also crept in such matters. When you have a stubborn mind set to implement the plan systematically, nothing will prevent you to implement. . When you have a plan to implement it meticulously for that study session, stick on to it without any disturbance. It is best to be in the present rather than worrying about the past or future.

Points to be kept in mind in the Examination Hall :

 Once you get the question paper, evaluate the entire paper first without attempting the answers with which you are familiar. An over all reading of the Question paper will give a great relief of the entire position of the Test and capabilities and worthiness enter into your heart to face the challenge of the questions.
 Do not rush into answering.
 Select the questions that are very sure.
 Mark the ones you want to answer.
 Answer questions that you find easy because that gives you confidence and also time to take the rest of the exams peacefully.
 When you have a choice, make sure that you select problems because they can be solved in a shorter span of time and you can be sure of full marks.
 If you are not sure of problems, then select paragraph answers.
 Time your paper and ensure that you complete at least 10 minutes before the due time.
 After answer every question, take a minute to revise the answer. This would be useful in case you don’t find time to review your answer sheet later.
 After completing the answers revise.
 Revision is extremely critical because it can help you identify mistakes and correct them
 Finally, after the exam, understand that you cannot do anything about the way you have answered, just relax and wait for the results.
