How to Acquire Skills

It is inevitable to every individual to acquire sufficient skills for his employability. Simply completing graduation with bookish knowledge may not cater to the needs of the Industries, companies and firms. Now a days, most of the students are working hard to get their Graduation degrees either in Engineering stream or in Management stream, by securing high percentage of marks with their hard work, but at the same time, they could not succeed in acquiring requisite skills for their employability.  The final year graduates are not in a position to acquire employable skills during their study time and as a result of which they failed to present their skills before the employers satisfactorily. When they face campus interviews or attending for the recruitment processes, they could not exhibit required skills before their Interviewers satisfactorily, due to lack of awareness on employability skills which are primary objectives for any firm, company, Industry to reach the organizational goals. Even intelligent students also may not be in a position to present their skillful attitude before the companies on account of their inability and lack of proper guidance by their teachers and mentors. Finishing Schools attached to the Colleges of Engineering and Management, are somehow catering to the needs of the students by providing sufficient soft skills to make them road-worthy for employment and to put them in right career path. Graduates and Post Graduates need not depend upon any other agencies to acquire employable skills. They can as well prepare themselves, to become a skilled worker in all aspects.

Employable skills cannot derive from any other sources. These skills are within the individuals. Every individual is having his own resources within himself, and he can acquire sufficient skills by means of self confidence, constant thinking, hard work, and ability to gain practical experience in all aspects. As rightly said Swamy Vivekananda that “Education is the manifestation of perfection already in man” skills are also one of the resources available within the man, which can be identified by self introspection and utilized by means of hard work and industriousness.    Let us discuss, how an individual acquire sufficient skills which were inherited within himself and which would be generated from out of his own resources by means of proper application of mind, industriousness,  capability, adaptability   and creativity.

Rational thinking:

Every individual should think in a different way with positive outlook, rather than in general nature. Thoughts should be based on logic and reason. Analytical thinking with positive attitude provides sufficient understanding skills and knowledge on the content and topic. Topical interests developed sufficiently among individuals leading to a rapid growth of the individual thinking with analytical skills and ability to do better in course of time in order to search derived goals and objectives. Thoughtful nature of every individual give rise to the power of mind, mental ability, rational thinking and character building as well as personality development. Assessing the situations in a right direction to have a successful conclusion on account of the reasonable judgment and rationale in deciding the issues. This is a genuine skill for all the individuals to get employability without any fear or favour. Individuals feel emphatic in nature by virtue of their rational thinking and analytical reasoning. Rational thinking ensures right person on the right path to gain reasonable knowledge and understanding.

Creativity:

Imagination is the perfect factor for each and every individual to create something or so. Application of mind in several aspects to generate new ideas, views, and concepts provides creative skills to the individuals.  Creative thoughts generate new ideas and views for individual development and prospects. Skillful attitude of the individuals enhances the qualitative knowledge and enlightens them with excellent creativity skills. Most of the students are lacking creativity in the process of the performance of their legitimate duties and responsibilities because of the unawareness of their strengths and weaknesses. Creative skills fill the gap in the individuals in getting their abilities and aptitudes in to lime light. As a matter of fact, creativity is an inner concept within the individual, which was hidden till such time it is picked up to activate by one’s own method of practicality.

Appropriate talkative nature:

Every individual should take proper care while talking with others. Talkativeness will  be the decorative ornament to every individual which provides attractiveness before other colleagues, and on the other hand, the individual can develop his speaking skills, ability to speak perfectly, and gain experience in technical writing and speaking. Communication of information, beautification of language, and language skills developed a lot, as a result of which the individuals can enrich their communication skills, talkativeness, language skills, attitudinal skills, and behavioral skills. Talkativeness in proper direction will benefit the individuals, but it harms the individual if it is activated in a wrong direction. The skill of talking and presentation of the ideas and concepts before others logically, increases the self confidence and motivation among the individuals.

Common sense:

Common sense is one of the important factors in any individual’s life. One can observe sense of responsibility, sense of proper accountability, sense of accuracy, sense of benevolence and lastly the sense of correct approach and behavior. It gives rise to the development of individual capacity and individual attitude and aptitude. Individuals can experience more quanta of skills in their daily life, which would be useful for them in their employability. Common sense point of view to be taken in all aspects of their activities to be in conformity with their knowledge and understanding. Persons without having common sense are not useful to the society and they cannot flourish in any field. Sense is more important to professional development of every individual.

Communication skills:

Individuals should frequently practice the communication skill by virtue of their dealings with other individuals, colleagues, Officers and peer group.  For this act of work, individuals should be habituated to paper reading, observing the skill of technical writings, speaking, pronunciation, vocabulary, and beautification of language, sentence construction, grammatical mistakes, drafting and correspondence, computer typing every day, besides keen observation of the locution/ speeches of the experts in the meetings, seminars, workshops, Conferences etc., with special reference to the manner and style of expression of the content, material and language by the Chief guests, Guests etc., which would be beneficial to the individuals to gather required communication skills to practice.

Aptitude and Initiative:

One should have natural ability to do things and power of taking responsibility to complete the targets and goals. Initiation is more important to start any item of work to be completed within the frame work of time and schedule of programme, for which every individual has to get ready for the task with enthusiasm and interest to do it perfectly. The skill of initiation will come out of one’s own body if it is kept under perception in one’s own mind. One should act perceptively while moving with other colleagues and friends, and try to understand the others views and concepts critically and review the situations time and again, so that the development of aptitude and initiative will come into practice with regularity and perfection.

New innovations and implementation

Research activity is one of the prime and important activities to any individual to get awareness on the new innovations to put into practice and implementation for suitable results. Searching for new information and new innovations will strengthen the mental power of an individual resulting which innovative skills will be developed in course of time. Any individual must set an objective on which he wants to proceed further in his career, and try to develop innovations in that field so that he will be able to acquire suitable skills in his field and put him in expertise in his own path. One must bring naturality in his ideas and concepts, and proceed further for new innovations to put into practice and to gain excellence in such skills. Whatever the skill experienced by an individual, he must try to implement the same in right direction and in good path. Analytical reviews, rationality in thinking, application of logical thoughts, feelings, concepts, understanding provides eventual results at a given point of time, which ensures the individual capacity to earn and learn new things, innovative ideas and developments. These would not only give mental satisfaction, but also provide experimental knowledge and behavior which will pave the way to acquire employable skills.

Leadership qualities and Group Management.

Every individual is having leadership qualities, but these qualities could not be executed in times of need because of the unawareness of the qualities possessed by them.  Opportunities and situational events make the individuals to express their inner qualities to exhibit. When such of the situations occurred, individuals should make use of them to acquire leadership qualities and managerial skills to exhibit properly and to retain such qualities with them. Leaders will not born directly, but come out of the group members with dedicated aims and objectives, and ability to lead the group and interest in taking part in Group discussions, and reviews. Managing a group with dedication and spirit of knowledge and understanding, creativity, objectivity and eagerness to lead the mob, is one of the prime concern of every individual to acquire leadership skills and Group management skills. These skills can be acquired by means of constant practice and recollection of the events took place in the past, practicality, maintainability and sustainability. Self confidence is the main factor to gain leadership skills and to lead a group with proper direction.

Positive attitude

Every individual should develop positive attitude in his dealings, acts, and communications. Negative thinking, negative attitude may not give him proper response and result. Always try to understand the things in a positive outlook and make use of his powers and attributes in right direction to be in conformity with morality and ethical values. A conformist is always appreciated by all in the society, and his dealing, acts with other members of the society are commendable.  Individual’s positive attitude brings laurels to his personality. This is one kind of skill by which every individual can flourish in his career and brightens his prospects.

Identification of priorities and Time Management

Time is precious to every individual. Past time cannot be recurred. Gone are the days which cannot be recouped and recovered. Hence time management is one of the important factors in every body’s life. We can schedule our day to day work with proper time management to enable us to complete the work within the time frame without any delay. To overcome the delays, it is quite necessary to identify the priorities which would be completed in advance so that suitable time frame will be prepared for completing the tasks. Un-necessary things, waste of precious  time, and waste of energy are somehow common in all the Institutions, which have to be overtaken by the individuals with sound knowledge of activity based learning and proper identification of the priorities to be implemented in the best interest of the Institution and society. Execution of the priority works within the time frame of work is the best use of activity in any institution with the individual’s ability to do things better with good results. Every individual should try to understand the priorities in any institution, and make them useful with their ability and intuition with suitable time frame of work. These tasks will provide suitable skills and ideas to the individuals in their job process, which will be beneficial to them in their career and prospects.

Industriousness

Every individual should work industriously. Laziness should not touch him under any cost. They should believe that work is worship. Workmanship is the motto of every individual. Practice makes men perfect. Goes on working in any situation will bring individuals with pleasant naturality and estimated experience and guidance. Power of taking responsibility and work will give every individual a sense of self satisfaction, dedication and willingness to work with proud and vigour.  Individuals who work hard will get intelligentsia in their work path and will receive commendation from co-workers.  This would become a skillful attitude in their career path and continuously enjoy the job satisfaction and fervour. Everybody will appreciate the attitude of the individuals who work hard continuously.

Proper understanding on the contemporary issues:

Individuals should have an elaborate understanding capacity on the contemporary issues and generate knowledge and understanding on the same with practical experience. Political, Social and Economic problems, and the ways and means of their solutions in proper concept, are the realistic concern for each and every individual, to gain general awareness and knowledge on the contemporary issues and their solutions. This will facilitate the individuals to acquire sufficient analytical skills on the general awareness, understanding, besides thoughtful knowledge and prudent attitude.  

Enthusiasm in learning new things:

Every individual should have an initiative to learn new things. Eagerness to learn more and more will get him in touch with new understandings and awareness on the new innovations.  The analysis of Research and development must take place in the minds of every individual by means of his/her learning capabilities and enthusiasm to know more and more. To develop learning skills, one must create a suitable atmosphere in his own life, and try to generate new innovations, new creations by means of his own academic activity. Learning is a continuous process to be taken place in the minds of every individual so as to develop learning skills.

Problem solving technique:

Individuals may face numerous problems not only in their academic life, but also in their personal life. The way of tackling problems and to generate suitable solutions to solve the problems is a technique to be adopted by all individuals. Technicality in assessing the situations arising out of problematic issues, timely actions and precautions, introspection are some of the factors for enriching the problem solving skills. Encountering a problem with suitable solution and readiness to face the situation to tackle the problem, commitment, and considerations are fruitful resemblances in one’s own life to gain requisite skill or techniques for gainful employment.
