Effective Teaching Learning Process

EFFECTIVE TEACHING LEARNING PROCESS

Teaching Learning Process in the schools and Colleges is a cognitive element sticking together between the Teachers and taught. An effective teaching learning process will definitely cause more enthusiasm in the minds of the students to acquire knowledge and understanding the subject matter in a cognizant manner. An environment conducive to face the challenges to ensure the teaching learning process should take place effectively. The writer of the article inclined to focus attention on the implementation of the effective teaching learning process in the Schools and Colleges to promote effective student learning process and to improve the quality of the teaching and learning experiences of the student. The writer strongly feels that the effectiveness of the Teaching learning process is depending on the effective facilitation of communication, involvement, dedication and interaction among the students, teachers and the content. Teachers always strive for the projection of the effective teaching learning process in the Class rooms and assimilate essence of the subject matter in the minds of the students to strengthen their understanding capacities.

Teaching is an active process in which student shares information with other students which reflects on the behavioral changes among the students. Learning is also a constant process of assimilating information and knowledge between one student with other with resultant change in behavior. Learning can occur as a result of newly acquired skill, knowledge, perception, facts, principles, and new information on hand etc., Learning can be reinforced with learning aids of different variety because they stimulate, motivate as well as arrest learner’s attention for a while during the instructional process. Thus teaching learning process is a regulated mechanism in the Educational Institutions and planned interaction between teachers and taught and meant for promoting behavioral changes. Learning aids are instructional materials and devices through which teaching and learning done in schools. Examples of learning aids include Visual aids, audio-visual aids, real objects and many others. The Visual aids are designed materials that may be locally made or commercially produced for the sake of teaching learning process. They come in the form of wall charts illustrated pictures, pictorial materials and other two dimensional objects. There are also audio-visual aids like Radio, Television and all sorts of Projectors with sound attributes.

In the traditional teaching methods, teachers used to offer course material in a class room where the students listen, take notes, copy materials, execute home work and complete the assignments. In many cases, students are not in a position to transfer knowledge to other students affectively, though they are having sound knowledge of the subject matter. The goal of the teaching is to improve the student learning activity by expanding opportunities for learning in every lesson. The teacher should build awareness on the student, a variety of effective teaching ideas and techniques by producing the students with the right skills and knowledge to become good citizens. Teachers should adopt modern methods of techniques in teaching by delivering the course materials to students through the use of innovative teaching strategies and appropriate technologies. The teachers should listen to the students in order to make continuous improvement to the design and delivery of the information that is able to cause student to learn continuously in the acquisition of knowledge, experience, know-how, wisdom and character. The teacher should communicate the information of the subject matter to the students by simultaneously focusing and interacting with the students to motivate and get their attention to learn and attain the adequate knowledge and power. The teaching learning process will be effective only when the teacher and taught work together to identify, analyze and make improvements to the teaching learning process. Every student should involve in the teaching learning process assiduously to meet their learning experiences and teaching objectives. The learning requirements/experiences derived from out of the activities such as “personal attention”, “interactive multimedia and visual application” “Teacher and taught interaction”, interesting/meaningful/practical/real life explanations. The effective teaching learning process not only accumulates knowledge, understanding, mastery of the subject in the minds of the students, but also attains qualities, abilities, habits, attitudes, culture and communication.

Children share responsibility for their own learning and they will actively participate in the Teaching Learning Process, provided the Teacher adopts a systematic and strategic Academic plan for effective teaching learning process. It is the teacher who creates interest in the minds of the children towards teaching learning process. The objective of the various teaching practices is to involve students in as many as teaching Programmes that will sufficiently help the students to develop required teaching skill, expose them to the problems of learners and lead them to qualify as professionals. In all these activities, the primary object is the Teacher (who is also an Audio-visual aid) to identify innovative ideas and Academic activities and Programmes, to create an ability and enthusiasm/interest towards the Teaching learning process without feeling any boredom in the Class room. Students always move towards new innovations and their fresh mind search for novel ideas that are expected to find from their Teachers. Students have to submit the course work quickly, and ensure active academic participation in the demonstrations, and group activities. Such kind of commitment and dedication should be inculcated in the minds of the students for developing teaching learning process in an effective manner to attract the children in all aspects.

How far our teaching community fulfills the need for implementation of the effective teaching learning process. No doubt majority of the teachers implement the effective principles of teaching learning process, but a few section of teaching community may undertake teaching learning process as a routine task of teaching without taking effective steps to ascertain what quantum of knowledge imbibed in the minds of the students. The lethargy on the part of some teachers may badly affect the teaching learning process.

The knowledge of the teacher is vitally important for effective teaching. The teacher should have ample knowledge of the subject matter for proper implementation of the important teaching tasks. Teachers, who are mastery over the concerned subject matters, can effectively and constantly teach the students by systematic organization of the content into the several units, and sub-units to prepare a strategic Lesson Plan. Inter-connectivity of the subject matters with the student‘s previous knowledge, identifying useful analogies and examples, current thinking on the subject which are some of the principles of effective teaching learning process, are to be made applicable in all academic activities in the process of teaching in the class room

Learning capabilities of the students will enhance due to their active involvement and participation in the teaching learning process. Learning is an active process where students have to take part in the academic activities. Students active involvement in the teaching learning process resembles through the basic concepts of “ Group discussions”, “ Practice sessions”, “ Exercises “ , “ Team and terms projects” “ Constant observations”.

Students need to motivate by means of effective interaction of the teacher and taught. Formal and Informal Interactive sessions between teacher and taught are more important for creating motivation and active involvement of the students in the teaching learning process. Constant preparation of the study material to suit to the needs of the students in such a manner that it is practicable to study easily and understandable by the students. This type of study material produced by the teachers makes the students to actively participate in the teaching learning process.

Mentoring is another important activity of the teacher to motivate the students towards effective teaching learning process. By means of good mentoring process, teachers can mould the minds of the students towards better academic instructional aspects, thus make them ready for ever towards active involvement in the teaching learning process.

Class room teaching is not only sufficient. Outside the class room activity makes the students to derive interest in Academic processes. Keen observation of the teacher towards the activities of the student outside the class room, may bring fruitful results in the student’s participation and academic interest.

The basic aim and objective of the Teaching learning process is to create a supportive environment that gives student to take initiative to learn through the process of engagement and participation in the class room. What are the steps that are to be taken by each and every teacher to become the Teaching learning process effective is a challenging question now before us, to implement.

Let us elucidate the task of the teacher to implement effective teaching learning process.

1. The teacher has to up-to-date the curriculum content regularly. He should demonstrate the working knowledge of the core curriculum.
2. Knowledge, Communication and Interest are the core qualities of a good teacher to assimilate information effectively. All Teachers must attain supremacy over these three core qualities to implement effective teaching learning process.
3. Teachers should possess exclusive knowledge on the subject matter. He should be an expert in his field. It is a pre-requisite for every teacher.
4. Teachers should possess the abilities for communication of the subject matter to their students. Lacking of proper communicative techniques results bad effects in the process of teaching and learning. If the communication of the knowledge and expertise by the teacher to their students is shabby, the purpose of effective teaching and learning will be defeated.
5. A good teacher’s job is to extract advanced and up-to-date knowledge and information and make it reachable to the students
6. Teachers should always perceive or pick out innovative and creative works which are much inspired by the students at all levels and make the students understandable even if they are complicated. Complicated issues may be explained in a clear cut way in such a manner that all the below average students are able to understand with ease.
7. Teachers should start with firm knowledge of the subject matter and strengthen his knowledge and power to help students to get mastery of the subject matter.
8. Teachers should be interested in the subject matter being taught, and create an environment in the class room in such a manner that the students feel interest on the subject relevant to them.
9. All the Teachers must be sensitized on the need to update their knowledge on effective Teaching learning process. They should also have a forum for meeting periodically, to assess and analyze the effectiveness of their teaching using the methods of instructional and educational technology, advanced techniques of instruction, pedagogy. Tthey should design and cultivate packages (software) materials that could be used in their Teaching learning process.
10. Teacher’s immense capability and knowledge towards the subject matter is measurable component for quality education. Qualitative education is only possible when the potentiality of the Teacher reflected in the class room by virtue of his innovative ideas, creativity, academic expertise, and content development. It would pave the way towards rightful direction to the students to learn effectively and creates interest to involve in the Teaching learning Process. If the student’s interests are continuously focused in the class room towards teaching learning process, definitely it would be an effective teaching learning process.
11. Every teacher should ensure to make the students learn, retain and use the information and material better, the subject topics should be taught by combining presentation with activities and constructive interaction. One of the best ways to build relationship is to ask as many as questions while simultaneously encouraging the students to ask questions. Asking relevant questions and carefully listening to the answers given by the students determines the level of knowledge and maturity of the students and what areas need to be given emphasis further to realize the educational objectives.
12. Teachers should be well prepared, ensure for the well organization of the learning material, present the topics clearly and enthusiastically. During the Teaching learning process, teachers should allow the students and give opportunities to read, write, talk, listen, clarify, reflect, apply, consolidate and accumulate new knowledge from the content/topic.
13. Students generally need more than one exposure to learn effectively, for some of the topics of new or un-familiar. The Teachers should overcome this problem by giving enough time to learn the material being taught and to rephrase the explanations of many difficult but important points and concepts in the teaching session.
14. Excellence in Education comes from innovative teaching techniques and effective instructional and learning material. Every teacher has to ensure for searching innovative teaching techniques and effective instructional and learning material, to present and produce before the students to get them trained/developed/matured/Improved in the Educative process.
