CHARACTER BUILDING
Character is a very important factor in every body’s life style to become a good citizen in society. Without character nobody flourishes in the society. Character grows when we grow from time to time. But a good character must be needed to lead a respectable life.
What is character? Character is nothing but good behaviour, culture, value-based life and attitude. Now a days, in the present situation, the cine field showing so many characters as heroes of the film. But it is not real character. It is emotional character which does not count for a good character. In old films, so to say, in 1950-60, the characters of the film heroes, molded like a scarifying personality with a good character. Good character reveals in their personality traits. The character molded for ANR in the old film “ charanadasi “ is a big example of the good character.
Character cannot be owned by anyone without acting for building and molding his character traits and factors. Character building means to get in touch with some features and improving the “values”, “behaviour”, “attitude”. “Knowledge”. “empathy”, “responsibility”. “trustworthiness”. “caring’. Fairness”. “respect’. ‘citizenship”. “ethics”.’ Personality”,’ culture”, integrity”. “sincerity”. “tact and temper”. ‘emotional strength” etc.
Let us discuss the various factors that build character of human beings in general and in particular :
1. Values: - Values are very important factor in building character in one’s own behaviour. Valueless people have no footing in the society. Every human being maintains values in all walks of his life to maintain beautiful and wonderful character in the world. Human values raise the status of the persons in the society in general and as well as in the surroundings relations in particular. Values maintains the individual character and behaviour. Thus values are primary factor for the character building.
2. Ethics:- Ethics is the second important factor for character building. Ethics goes on lines of values. Values and ethics are both like brothers and sisters. Ethical values are very important in individual’s life style. Ethics creates individual’s fairness and culture. Character building improves by means of ethical values. Thus ethics is one of the important factors for the character development and building.
3. Behaviour:- Behaviour shows the respects of every individual in the society as well as in the social movements. Social awareness develops by means of improvement of the behavior. Behaviour reflects the personality development of. Every individual in his all walks of life in general and in his own friendly life in particular. Behaviour enhances the living conditions as well as personality traits. Thus behaviour is one of the best factors of the character building.
4. Attitude :- Attitude is nothing but a feeling, mannerism, position, in respect of a person tendency, or orientation especially of a mind. Anybody’s posture or expressive in action, emotion etc. reflects the attitude of the person. Psychologists define attitudes as a t= learned tendency to view and judge things in a certain way. Attitude includes. An evaluation of people, issues, objects, policies or events. Attitude may be regarded an as umbrella term that consists of our opinions, emotions, perceptions, beliefs, expectations, values and intensions., Maintaining good attitude means, following perfect opinions, emotions, perceptions, beliefs, expectations, values and intentions, may generally develop good behavior and personality. Thus attitude is one of the most important factor for the character building.

5. Knowledge:- Knowledge is more powerful object in ones own character. Knowledge arrives through education. Education is nothing but knowledge. It is promotes character and behaviour. It creates individuals’ attitude, develops, behavior, culture, ethics, values, and what not all . Character building develops through knowledge and Attitude. One cannot ignore knowledge in his day to day developmental activities for furtherness of his interests Hence knowledge encompass individuals Character building process.
6. Empathy: -Empathy means kindness, as well as the ability to understand and share the feelings of other persons who need help. It involves both cognitive understanding (thinking about others perspective) and emotional resonance 9 feeling of their emotions). Empathetic circumstances lead to active participation in helping others, showing compassion, and validating their feelings and help. Empathy is one kind of factor that builds the character of human beings in a right path. It gives helping nature to all who are in need. This can be considered as one of the behavioral aspects in the Character building. Thus, empathy can be considered as one of the factors for Character building.
7. Caring:- Caring is nothing but the taking the responsibility of others who want to care them for their wellbeing. It is nothing but a helpful attitude to give a helping hand to others which gives most respect to the human beings in the society. Caring is the one of the characterizes of human binges. Human Touch, Humanitarian consideration, Humanistic approach, Human care are the fundamental things for caring and they leads to the character building.
8. Fairness:- Fairness is nothing but the open mindedness of an individual. Faire mentality gives respect to every individual in in his all walks of life. Fairness leads to respect, kindness, and empathy. Fairness and ethics go by one another. In. terms of ethical concepts, fairness refers to the impartial and equitable treatment of all individuals, ensuing everyone has a reasonable opportunity. Fairness involves the consideration of the factors like equality, impartiality, honesty and justice in decision making. Thus, fairness is becoming a factor for character building.
9. Respect:- Respect gives tendency for living in better condition in a society. Respect is nothing but a fundamental ethical principle, emphasizes that individuals should be treated as gentlemen, capable of making their own choices and that those who entitle to protection. It reflects and acknowledges an individuals dignity and decorum, value of self-determination and giving importance to their right to make decision about their own values. Respect is a part and parcel of one’s own position in the society at large. Respect develops individuality, personality and behaviour. Hence it is most important factor for the character building.
10. Trustworthiness : Always speaking truth and the quality of being truest is called trustworthiness. There is a proverb, “Honesty is the best policy”. Many people said that the honesty and trustworthiness are two sides of a coin. rustworthiness must definitely a quality of a person or a thing that inspires reliability. Strictly speaking, a dog is a best example for trustworthiness. A person needs to be maintained the quality of trust being one oef the best charesteristcs of attitude of a human being to be served as a great gentleman in society. We cannot ignore the trust from the qualities of a man”s character. Therefore, trustworthiness is also a factor for character building.
11. Personality : Personality is the distinctive patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaviour. It is a unique combination of personality traits that makes someone who they are distinguishes them from others. The notable and important personality traits are, courage, creativity, conscientiousness, compassion, optimism, honesty, leadership and loyalty. A persons personality reflects on his actions, behaviour, attitude, and feelings which are almost all the factors for building a qualified character. Personality helps for character building.
12. Integrity: - Integrity is nothing but fairness and truthfulness. Actually it refers to the adherence to a specific code of conduct and moral principles to be truthful and honest enough to do what is right. Persons with integrity are always non-corrupt, un-compromise in the moral and ethical values that they believe. There are some key aspects in the concept of integrity, they are consistency, honesty and truthfulness, moral courage, moral and accountability, respect etc. These qualities are essential in any individual to become an integrity person which is the prime factor for character building.
13. Sincerity : sincerity is nothing but promptness, time bound nature, a conceptual factor for timely sense and activity with trust and interest. It is a mix of concepts of seriousness and honesty. If you do things with sincere moto, people will trust you. Patience and compassion are also factoring for sincerity. A persons caliber will be measured with the help of his sincerity. If no seriousness is there, a person will be called characterless person. Hence sincerity is also one of the factor for character building
14. Culture : In simple terms, culture is nothing but the way of life of a group of people, accompanying everything they learn. Culture is a complex concept of beliefs, values, customs, traditions, language, norms, symbols and behaviors that shape how individuals within a society think, act and interact. Culture shows the people or group of peoples way of life in the society. A well cultured person will flourishes in the society of people. A person who has all these qualities of culture will become a valuable gentleman. Hence culture is most important factor of building character of a person in general.
15. Responsibility: A fair mentality of a person reflects upon the taking up of the responsibility on his acts, deeds, activities, works, etc., Responsibility means normally, a person to have control and authority over something or someone and the legal duty of taking care of it. In an office, or an organization, the quality or state of being. Responsible such as “ moral, legal, or mental accountability, reliability, trustworthiness. Employees who understand their roles are recognized as dedicated to their work with exemplary commitment to get results. For quality management systems, it is important that individuals may take responsibility for their actions. A systematic and integrity person must take up the responsibility whether good and bad, for its outcome. This mode of activity raises up the individuality and character. Therefore, responsibility is also one of the factors for building character.

16. Citizenship: A right to have citizenship in a country. It is the position or status of being a citizen of a particular country. A legal status and relation between and individual and a state that entails specific legal rights and duties. Citizenship is generally used as a synonym for Nationality. Trespassers from other countries to India cannot be have legal right to get citizenship and they cannot be treated as a Legal person. Therefore those persons have no legal character in our country. For character building, Nationality and citizenship is a must and necessary for legal status of living.
CONCLUSION:
Character building refers to the process of developing emotional strength, moral values. It plays a pivotal role in shaping one’s own behavior, decision making and interpersonal relationships and skills. Building character teaches the students the importance of taking responsibility for their actions, decisions, and mistakes. The sense of accountability nurtures a growth mindset. These abilities can be developed through effort and perseverance. Life will inevitably present challenges, setbacks, and failures. A virtual character person will face the challenges and setbacks. Character building is a vital part of personal and professional development. It shapes individual’s values, influences their relationships, and determines the success in various life areas. By focusing on integrity, development, empathy and effective strategies like setting goals and seeking feedback, we can cultivate a robust character that enhances our productivity and overall well-being. With dedication and effort, you can build a character that not only propels you towards success but also positively impacts those around you. Thus, Character Building is most important factor in one’s own life for his furtherness of his interest in his future accomplishments and benefits. It may not be out of place to mention here that every individual either educated or uneducated, must strive hard to build his character by his own thoughts, feelings, views, habits, culture, social interaction, and family background.
